David Pauley / Fantasy Stream Team: National Pick
September 3rd 2010 In Fantasy Sports |
Doug Fister was on a roll on Thursday before giving up a bases loaded double to Shin-Soo Choo in the sixth inning. Choo would come around to score, and Fister was left with four earned runs in 5.1 innings, striking out three batters while walking none. Fausto Carmona is on the mound for the Stream Team on Friday.
We're digging deep for Saturday's streamer and taking Nationals pitcher John Lannan, available virtually across the board in the fantasy world. Lannan has posted wins in four of his last five starts, allowing two runs or less in each of those victories. Conversely, opponent Paul Maholm is 0-4 in his last five starts, allowing eight runs in 3.1 innings in his most recent start.
Pittsburgh is still last in scoring in the National League, and they've lost five of their last six games. Lannan doesn't have the peripheral numbers to suggest success, but we'll gamble on his current string of victories and Pittsburgh's inability to win games.
Lannan was quickly snatched up in my league by someone streaming, so I'm going with Jenrry Mejia and David Pauley as I make a push for wins.

Derrick Ward / Ward visiting with Texans today

Derrick Ward will visit with the Texans today and could visit with Seattle soon after, according to Pro Football Talk.
Our View: The Giants are another team that may show interest in their former back. Regardless of where Ward lands, he does not figure to open the season with any fantasy value.

Brady Quinn / Tim Tebow looks to be Denver’s No. 2 QB
September 3rd 2010 In Fantasy Sports |
After three preseason performances, the most negative thing that could be said about Tim Tebow is that he is a rookie quarterback who is prone to making rookie mistakes.
But, most important, Tebow has shown that he looks like he belongs in the NFL. All he needs is to make progress.
That will likely be done as Denver's No. 2 quarterback.
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels is not making any proclamations and we may not know anything officially until Denver announces its emergency quarterback prior to the season opener at Jacksonville on Sept. 12. But it sure seems like Tebow has done enough to beat out Brady Quinn as Denver's backup quarterback.

Albert Haynesworth / Albert Haynesworth goes the distance
September 3rd 2010 In Fantasy Sports |
Let's take a quick look at what folks are saying about the Redskins' 20-10 loss in Arizona:Paul Tenorio of the Post thinks the diminutive Brandon Banks may have sealed his fate with yet another fumble during a return. I've been pulling for the 5-6 Banks out of Kansas State, but he's just been too inconsistent. Hopefully he'll end up on the practice squad.Tenorio has put together a nice, long summary of Thursday's events. It was pretty funny to see Albert Haynesworth on the field in the fourth quarter of a fourth preseason game. I'm anxious to see how he react.Excellent blog post from Matt Terl on last night's Redskins loss. Here's some instant analysis from Comcast Sportsnet's Ryan O'Hallran.Albert Haynesworth was on the field until the bitter end. He was out there for 49 of the Redskins' 55 players, according to the Post's Jason Reid.
